Monday Motivation: A Christmas Meditation

  • November 28, 2011 4:00 am

My husband started our Thanksgiving Day celebration with the story of Mary and Martha serving Jesus. Martha, busy about her hospitality, forgot the purpose of the day. And Mary, with some tasks left undone, had still chosen the best.

And so we began, or rather ended, our month long focus of Thanksgiving with a feast, celebrating blessings with our friends over turkey and dressing and green bean casserole.

Now, as I’m trying to switch gears for Christmas, that one thought keeps echoing in my mind. Which role will I choose—the busy or the best?

I will admit, I’m much less motivated for the busy-ness of this season. I’m 23 weeks pregnant and just plain pooped!  And yet, I find this leaving me more stressed than relaxed. The organization that I would have typically started about a month ago will probably not be done this month either. And, knowing that the season is upon me without the planning and energy I’m accustomed to, I’m much more tempted to lose focus.

So my goal this month in my home and on my blog, is to strive for the Mary moments, reflecting and meditating in His presence.

It is His presence, after all, that brings significance to the season of Christmas. Emmanuel!

This post really convicted my Martha heart. Sometimes it is so easy to focus on the festivities rather than the people…I share your goal of having Mary moments!

    Blessings!
